ANCIENT PALACE OF KNOSSOS

the Palace of Knossos is among the  most fascinating treasures of Ancient Greece., Dating back to 1900 BC, it was the hub of Crete’s Minoan civilization and where the mythical Minotaur was once said to have lurked in a labyrinth. Our tour will let you hear  all the myhts nd legends of this ancient civilization, the oldest in Europe, as you explore the treasures of its most famous palace including the throne room, royal apartments and frescoes.

.ARCHANES VILLAGE

Archanes is a picturesque village built on the slopes of mount Giouhtas, situated in the center of the most important wine-producing region of Crete, it has a 5000 years old history, while excavations conducted in the last 50 years have brought to light a lot of sites dating back to the Minoan period.

The village is also very famous for its typical Cretan architecture. Most of the houses have been restored recently, giving the chance to the guests to enjoy the local atmosphere, and Archanes has won the second award as “the best restored village in Europe”.

CRETAN WINES

Crete has the most traditional vineyard of Europe. Grape cultivation has taken place in Crete since the Minoan era, 4,000 years ago . The vineyards of Crete produce white, rose and red wines as well as raisins from the variety “Soultanina” and the table grape “Rozaki”.

Twenty percent (20%) of the Greek wine production comes from Crete. The vineyard in Crete has a surface approx 50.000 hectares and the wine production amounts to 950.000 hectolitres.

Our Tour will create  the option to visit a traditional winery  and taste varieties of local Cretan wines.

HERAKLION ARCHEOLOGY MUSEUM

The Heraklion Archaeological Museum is regarded as one of Europe”s most important museums. The museum brings together archaeological finds from all over Crete, covering over 5500 years of the island”s history. Pride of place is given to the treasures of Minoan civilisation, the entire historical course of which can thus be appreciated. Justly regarded as the home of Minoan civilisation par excellence, the museum houses the most important collection of Minoan antiquities the world over.

  

HERAKLION CITY

Great way you to discover this captial city starts with exploring its history and discovering  today’s Heraklion with the senses of Venetian and Ottomantimes. Walking tour will lead you discover the Venetian Walls, discovering  all the monuments of the largest town in Crete, the Venetian fountain of Morosini, the Venetian harbor, the Venetian arsenals, the Cathedral, the Church of St. Titus, the Church of St. Mark, the Venetian Loggia, impresive Ottoman buildings and monuments. VENETIAN PORT & VENETIAN FORTRESS (KOULES)

Next to the modern port of Heraklion located a picturesque Venetian harbor, currently serving as a marina with the impressive fortress of Koules that once protected its entrance. The Venetian fortress of Koules dominates the entrance to the Venetian harbour of Heraklion.

The 2km long jetty of the modern port starts here and is one of the favorite walk tours of the citizens.

The Venetians called it the “Sea Fortress” (Castello a Mare or Rocca a Mare), but today it is known by its Turkish name, Koules,It is one of the most familiar and beloved monuments of the city, and the symbol of Heraklion.
